TERRA: Bodies & Territories

A Groundbreaking Outdoor Performance at the Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education

Philadelphia, PA — This June, the Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education presents TERRA: Bodies & Territories, an immersive performance that fuses experimental dance theater with the raw beauty of the natural world. Created by acclaimed Philadelphia-based choreographer Silvana Cardell, TERRA explores the shared vulnerabilities between women’s bodies and the earth, activating the forest as both subject and stage.

Staged entirely outdoors on the Schuylkill Center’s forested land, TERRA features a multi-generational cast of women and femme dancers, ranging in age from 7 to 78, performing symbolic narratives that bridge human experience and ecological urgency. “We will unite women’s bodies with the land using the untamed forest of the Schuylkill Center as a living laboratory and stage,” says Cardell. “Our goal is to reveal and amplify the threat of patriarchal domination over both women and the environment.”

The production is elevated by original music from composer Devin Arne, whose soundscape weaves together field recordings and instrumentation to evoke the sensory richness of the forest. Visual artist Sarah Kavage contributes sculptural set pieces that mirror the wild surroundings, while costume designer Vasi Zivanic creates garments that echo both natural textures and movement.

Performance Dates:
June 13, 14, 15 and 20, 21, 22- (2025)
All performances take place at the Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education.

“TERRA immerses audiences in an experience where bodies align with the land and human movement merges with nature,” says Erin Mooney, Executive Director of the Schuylkill Center. “Our forest is the perfect setting for a performance where nature is at its most wild.”

Media assets and imagery are available in the TERRA Media Gallery.

This event is presented in support by media partner SuperBig Media, a Philadelphia-based media and cultural entertainment marketing company promoting boundary-pushing creative work across the region.
